Schendel Hopes to Regain the Top Spot in the ASA Midwest Tour Iowa 150

In the past three events he has stood on the podium in each finishing position.

He finished first in 2007, second in 2009 and third in 2011. This year Tim Schendel hopes to start that streak over again regaining the top spot when the ASA Midwest
Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings heads to Iowa Speedway for the Iowa 150 on Friday, September 14th.
“I have always taken a liking to the bigger tracks and had good set-ups there.” It seems that the track has always taken a liking to him too. Schendel has been the man to beat in all three events and could have been looking for a four-peat if it was not for those darn flat tires.
In 2007 he took the top spot on the podium but luck was not on his side in the next two races. In 2009 Schendel was leading and had a right front tire go down in the closing laps but hung on to second as Chris Wimmer snuck by for the win.
In 2011 he took off with the lead early in the race only to have that right front tire fail him again. Thankfully a caution came out as Schendel was preparing to pit and he came back up from the rear of the field challenging for the win by the end of the race but settled for third. “I think I might put some run-flat in the right front this year, maybe the outcome will be different,” joked Schendel.
With the competition getting tougher and tougher each and every year, Schendel knows that he has to be on top of his game. “Everyone keeps getting faster, smarter and better equipment every year. My set-up may not be where it needs to be this year. The reality of it is that there are a lot of fast drivers and cars. The competition level continues to change and it is a lot to stay on top of it.”
Tim has not been running the full schedule in the ASA Midwest Tour as he focuses on mentoring ASAMT Rookie of the Year points leader Matt Tifft as well as running some Nationwide races. Matt will also be competing in the event and Schendel hopes that the two of them can battle up front.
On Friday, September 14th, Qualifying for the ASA Midwest Tour begins at 4:30PM, Autograph session at 5:15 and Driver Introductions at 7:30PM. This event will run in conjunction with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series American Ethanol 200 which is on Saturday, September 15th.
