Ashley Huffman, Austin McDaniel, Devin Jones and Grant Wimbish round out the top five of the Bojangles Late Model Division

Saturday night at Hickory Motor Speedway finally saw a rain-free night as the Bojangles Late Model Stock division raced a 100-lap event paired with Limited Late Models, Super Trucks and Red Baron Renegades.

Qualifying put Dexter Canipe Jr. on the pole for the Bojangles Late Model race with Jesse LeFevers off pole.  After a side-by-side racing for the first ten laps, LeFevers lost his advantage to Canipe Jr. He eventually fell to the pressure of Ashley Huffman who moved into second, and Austin McDaniel who moved into third. The one making the forward move during the race was Devin Jones who rose from starting in sixth to finish in fourth.  After the caution-free event, Grant Wimbish would round out the top five putting LeFevers into sixth.

In the Limited Late Model race, Matt Piercy led the field to the green flag, only to lose the lead to Waylon Flynn on lap 1. The first caution of the night was the result of Jason Cochran making contact with Casey Pierce on lap 24. Another caution involving Tyler Church, Pietro Fittipaldi and Cochran proceeded on lap 30. At the checkered it was Flynn in the lead followed by Piercy and Monty Cox.

Clint Fields led the Super Trucks to the green. The first caution of the race fell on lap 12 as Jacob Marlowe spun in turn 1. Using the restart to his advantage, Mark Johnson quickly challenged Fields for the lead. Fields spun on lap 14, without damage. Once racing resumed, Fields powered through the field, moving into third on lap 23. With debris on the backstretch, the last caution of the race fell on lap 31. Brandon Setzer challenged Mark Johnson for the lead, racing door-to-door to the checkered flag. Setzer edged out Johnson to take the win. Mark Johnson finished second followed by Fields in third.

The first race of the night was the Red Baron Renegades led by Dillon Crouch – who led the event from start to finish. The first caution came on lap 11 as Eddie Russ, Kenneth Roberts and Kyle DiVanna spun coming out of turn 1. Racing quickly resumed and Crouch continued to pull away from the field until the second caution of the night came on lap 17 due to a single car spin. Crouch took the checkered flag, followed by Greg Austin in second and Russ in third.

Hickory Motor Speedway will race again next Saturday, July 16 with Honda Cars of Hickory Night presented by the Catawba Science Center. The night will feature the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series with appearances by the Bojangles Late Models, Limited Late Models, Super Trucks, Wrenchrag 4-Cylinders and Red Baron Renegades.
