Gomez Returns to SRL Action at The Bullring
Former Series Champion Seeking Win in Vegas
Jonathon Gomez, driver of the #22 Century Boatland Chevrolet in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour, has a great deal of optimism heading into the Century Boatland "125" on the 3/8-mile banked oval of The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor
Speedway this Saturday night. First, his performance record at The Bullring is among the best of all active drivers in the series and secondly, his company Century Boatland is sponsoring the event.
In six previous SRL starts at The Bullring, Gomez has notched four top three finishes (two 2nd place finishes and two 3rd's). Despite his impressive record at The Bullring, victory has eluded him. A victory on Saturday night would go a long way and mean a great deal to the team from Idaho.
"It is going to be a lot of fun," Gomez offered. "We are bringing my favorite car to my favorite track. I can't wait. We have a real good shot at the win. I have been so close before and just hope we can be there at the end and have a chance."
On Saturday night, Gomez will have one new wrinkle to contend with. His NASCAR K&N Series crew chief and regular team member Craig Raudman will trade his headset for a helmet this weekend and make his first SRL start of the season driving a car for Dave Reed. The teacher and the student have a chance to go head to head.
"There is no doubt that Craig is a talented driver," Gomez said. "I hope we can go fender to fender all night but of course he finishes behind me. It is going to be fun."
In his SRL Southwest Series career, Gomez has started 18 races scoring two victories. He also has twelve top five finishes with an average starting position of seventh. He is the 2010 SPEARS SRL Southwest Series champion and currently competes full-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series where he is seventh in the point standings heading into the final three events of the season.
Gomez Motorsports is owned by John Gomez, a successful farmer and businessman based in Idaho. The team is lead by crew chief Ron Copeland and supported by Blaine Bergem, Derek Copeland, Kyle Cattanach, Adam Wyse, and Mike Mulder.
