Position One Team Posts Top Five Performances at The Bullring
Special Labor Day Event Nets Performance Gains for So Cal Based
Position One Motorsports based in Southern California has had to make The Bullring at Las Vegas (NV) Motor Speedway their new home after the closure of Irwindale Speedway. The four hour trip to desert city is hot and not ideal but for the Position One team the journey is worth the drive.
This past weekend the 3/8-mile paved oval of The Bullring hosted a special two-day Labor Day spectacular drawing drivers from throughout the region. The Position One Motorsports team brought a three-car effort led by Luis Martinez Jr. in the #03 King Taco/Eibach/Ron's Rear End/Lucas Oil Chevrolet.
Martinez claimed quick qualifying honors on Saturday and backed that up with the win in the 50-lap feature. On Sunday, Martinez was again one of the fastest cars on track but had to settle for a runner-up finish in the 35-lap main event.
Juan Garcia, driving in his second race for the Position One Motorsports team, put the #30 King Taco/Lucas Oil Late Model through its paces and notched fifth place performance in both main events this past weekend giving notice that he is successfully making the transition from go-karting to full-bodied stock car action.
Greg Szot from La Canada, CA made his debut with the Position One Motorsports team after spending the last several months working in the shop and learning the nuances of what it is like to work on a race team. Szot quickly got up to speed in his first opportunity to compete in the sport he had previously only dreamed about. Szot finished 4th on Saturday and backed that performance up with a fifth place run on Sunday.
Steve Boldrof (team crew chief) along with team manager Rip Michels were pleased with the team's performance at The Bullring . "It is great to see each of the guys do well," Michels said. "We knew Luis (Martinez) would be fast but it was great to see both Juan and Greg perform so well."
