Bassett Jr. Returns with Unfinished Business at Newport
With a destroyed racecar from Newport last month, Ronnie Bassett Jr. had to forgo racing at Hickory. This weekend he returns to the track to finish what he started.
After sitting on the sidelines to watch younger brother Dillon win at Hickory, Ronnie Bassett Jr. will be back behind the wheel at Newport Speedway this weekend for a second chance at the UARA-STARS Jeff’s Auto Sales 150.
Bassett Jr., along with crew chief Chris Lawson and car chief Seth Smith, will return to the site of their last race with a different appearance and additional crew members. While the #04 Bassett Racing Ford remains at Performance Center getting repaired from Newport’s carnage, Ronnie Jr. has been given the opportunity to drive the Team Dillon Racing #2 Chevy this weekend.
With TDR driver Tim George Jr. scheduled to compete at Iowa Motor Speedway in this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck event, TDR has joined forces with BR to take on the tough 4/10 mile track where both their racecars got tore up in the late race caution nearly one month ago.
When the team hit the Newport high banks last Thursday for testing, the entire crew was pleased with the day’s progress. Ronnie Jr. said the car is reminiscent of how his 04 car felt stating “it was really good on old tires, feels better than last time.”
Bassett Jr. heads to the track this weekend hoping to back up his pole qualifying effort from June, but complete all 150 laps and better his race results. Newport was his first DNF since his last race of the 2011 season at Myrtle Beach.
Ronnie Bassett Jr. and Bassett Racing appreciate everyone at Team Dillon Racing for this opportunity and wish Tim George Jr. good luck this weekend in Iowa.
