K&N Pro Series East Practice: Elliott Tops Greenville Charts

Fastest In Prep For Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 140

Chase Elliott led the way in practice for tonight’s Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 140 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Greenville Pickens Speedway.

Elliott, from Dawsonville, Ga., piloted the No. 9 Aaron’s/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet to a fast lap of 21.089 seconds (85.353 mph) around the hallowed half mile.

Defending race winner Sergio Peña was second-fastest in the one hour session Saturday afternoon with a quick lap of 21.136 (85.163). Ben Kennedy was third on the speed chart at 21.300 (84.507).

Brett Moffitt, Corey LaJoie, Eddie MacDonald, Bryan Ortiz, Sam Hunt, Austin Hill and Andrew Smith brought home the top 10.

Points leader Kyle Larson finished 12th in practice at 21.560 (83.488). LaJoie is just one point behind him entering Greenville, the next-to-laps race of the season. Moffitt is eight back of Larson.

Tonight’s Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 140 was rescheduled from the original race date of Sept. 3. That day rain washed out qualifying, the field was set by the rulebook, and the race was eventually postponed. Championship contenders Moffitt and Larson will start on the front row while LaJoie is slated to start fourth. However, LaJoie will have to fall to the rear for missing the drivers meeting on Sept. 3.
