Short Track Action | Short Track Racing News: Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Opens Under NASCAR Banner April 14 Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Opens Under NASCAR Banner April 14 ================================================================================ John Bisci on 01/26/2012 16:49:00 The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will kick off its 2012 season on Saturday, April 14. The Bullring once again will carry the banner of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. The MetroPCS Super Late Models, Super Stocks and Bombers will be sanctioned by NASCAR. “The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series offers the greatest program in local asphalt short track racing,” said LVMS Vice President of Racing Operations Chris Blair. “We have a great schedule of events with an emphasis on exciting action for our fans as well as the best racing program for the hometown racers who put on the show.” The Bullring's MetroPCS Super Late Model class will run 14 NASCAR Division I points races on 12 sanctioned event nights. The event of April 28 will feature twin-30 lap features and the annual Chris Trickle Fathers’ Day weekend double will showcase the class in two 35-lap features. Since the Bullring is the only NASCAR-sanctioned short track in Nevada, the MetroPCS Super Late Model track champion also will earn the Nevada State Champion title and will be invited to participate in the 2012 NASCAR Awards Ceremony at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte. The NASCAR Division II category will be the recently-renamed Super Stock class (formerly Chargers). The name change was implemented to avoid confusion with street-driven vehicles bearing that name – as well as offering a better understanding of the class and rules for racers from other areas. The basic rules, format and overall program from 2011 remains. The Super Stock class is the stepping-stone category for experienced racers who are advancing into faster, full-body race cars. The NASCAR Division III category will be the popular Bullring Bombers. The Bullring Bombers are a cost-efficient, entry-level class based on stock car competition with an emphasis on fun for the participant and entertainment for the spectator. The Bullring also is conducting an extensive “Build-a-Bomber” campaign with local automotive shops and parts providers to place an emphasis on the development of more Las Vegas area racers.
