Short Track Action | Short Track Racing News: ARCA Drivers Start Seasons in Varied Competition ARCA Drivers Start Seasons in Varied Competition ================================================================================ ARCA News on 01/30/2012 15:35:00 Several drivers with ties to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards started their racing seasons this weekend, with some opting for sports car racing at Daytona International Speedway and others taking part in the Champion Racing Association's opening weekend in Cordele, Ga. Chad McCumbee, last season's Bill France Four Crown winner, joined teammate Jason Saini in Friday's Grand American Road Racing Association Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series BMW Performance 200. Driving the No. 03 C.J. Wilson Racing Mazda, the duo finished 15th of 41 in the Street Tuner class and 42nd of 82 overall. The pair finished each of the race's 58 laps, making its best effort on Lap 51. Nelson Canache, who recently announced that he will drive a full season for Venturini Motorsports and plans to make his ARCA debut at Daytona on February 18, also competed in Friday's race. With teammate Ian Baas, Canache and the No. 41 APR Motorsport Audi S4 finished 33rd of 40 entries in the Grand Sport class, good for 65th overall. Canache wasn't finished, though. He turned around Saturday to drive in the weekend's signature race, the Rolex 24 at Daytona. With Baas and other teammates Emanuele Pirro, Dion Von Moltke, and Dr. Jim Norman, Canache finished 44th overall in the No. 51 APR Motorsport Audi R8. The team placed 31st of 44 Grand Touring entries in the Rolex Sports Car Series event. In CRA Super Series South action, former ARCA Racing Series driver Kyle Busch won SpeedFest for the third time in his career at Watermelon Capital Speedway. Of note, Jared Marks (pictured) - a driver for Tony Marks Racing who last September finished fourth at Salem - finished 20th. Later this year, CRA Super Series races will fall under the sanction of ARCA. The first ARCA CRA Super Series race will take place April 14.
