Bowman, Cunningham Look Forward to Short Track

As Alex Bowman contemplates his first short track race of the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season, he can't help but look back at his disappointment at Daytona last month.

Bowman pulled into Daytona in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards history books as the only driver to ever win in his first two starts. Even though he didn't continue to add his name to those record books, he hasn't lost any of his push for victory.

His drive and determination were definitely not altered, based on his post-race comments.

"Of course I am disappointed about finishing 30th today and not accomplishing our goal of going three for three, but we are going to go all out at Mobile and try to bring our win record back up to .750," said the driver of the No. 22 eBay Motors/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Dodge then.

The team's test this week at the half-mile Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, Ala. gave Bowman the additional confidence that he needs to work toward that goal. With next weekend's race being ARCA's first trip to Mobile, track time was crucial. But weather threw the Cunningham Motorsports team a curve ball.

Once the track was almost dry, weepers on the frontstretch continued to plague the track drying efforts. In spite of the occasional interruptions, crew chief Paul Andrews said, "The test went good, except for the track weeping water. We still need to work on the center of the corner."

Bowman highlighted one other key for next Saturday's race.

"I am really excited to run Mobile," he said. "It's going to be a level playing field, since this is ARCA's first time. The race is going to be all about tire management."

ARCA Racing Series practice will take place from 1:30-5 Central next Friday, followed by Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 7. Drivers will appear for an on-track autograph session at noon Saturday, just before the 200-lap, 100-mile Mobile ARCA 200 at 2 p.m. Live coverage of all on-track events will be available at
